Learning from Each Other - NAEGA Conference 2004

The plans for this year’s conference on 6 and 7 October are progressing well. The conference will be in the impressive Armagh City Hotel and Conference Centre in Northern Ireland. Rooms will be available here and in other local hotels to provide a range of accommodation to suit all preferences and pockets. Armagh is a delightful and historic city within easy reach of Northern Ireland’s two main airports. A shuttle service will be provided at peak times. Flights to either Belfast International or Belfast City airports are available from most UK airports with a variety of ‘no frills’ airlines - so book early and take advantage of low prices.

The theme of the conference is Learning from Each Other and we are busy putting together a range of speakers and workshops. These include:

  • Professor Tony Watts who will provide an international perspective on adult guidance
  • Deidre Hughes and Jenny Bimrose who will update us on the National Careers Research Database and case study research into effective guidance
  • Professor John Field (currently based in Scotland at the University of Stirling)
  • A panel of practitioners from different geographical areas.

The conference is a great opportunity for networking, and to facilitate the sharing of ideas and good practice further, we are putting together a programme of workshops tailored to the interests of practitioners on issues such as Guidance in a multicultural society, and The role of guidance in engaging essential skills learners [NB here in Northern Ireland Essential Skills = Basic Education].

Be sure to book early to secure your choice of accommodation. More details (and a booking form) are available from:
