NAEGA Branch Development Poject

Branch Mentors

Can you help us with the above project?

The last issue of News and Views broke the good news that the DfES and LSC had agreed to fund the further development of NAEGA Branches in England.

We are now seeking to appoint mentors, to work for 5-15 days, depending on the needs of the particular Branch(es) they are working with, from now until March 31 2005. Mentors will receive a consultancy fee of £250 per day. Please note that the fee may have to go to your employer depending on the nature of your contract. We hope that NAEGA members will apply for these posts so that we can build on and develop existing knowledge and experience of NAEGA.

Please contact the NAEGA office for application forms. Posts will be allocated on the basis of your application and a telephone or face-to-face interview. We expect to appoint mentors over a period of 2-3 months.

Job Description

The mentors will report directly to the Project Manager. They will be allocated to specific existing and putative branches, to help members develop an appropriate branch infrastructure and a programme of activities. Their responsibilities will include:

  • Reporting on report progress to each Project Steering Group meeting, providing written interim and final reports.
  • Developing regular branch meetings in each region/nation of members and others with an interest in developing adult guidance.
  • Developing an annual programme of activities, including both strategic briefings/ discussion and operational training issues.
  • Developing branches to an agreed infrastructure, which includes a strategy for regular communication with members, arrangements to hold a Branch AGM and elect officers, including a branch representative on the NAEGA Board, and a financial structure agreed with the NAEGA Treasurer.
  • Developing ways of promoting the branch to practitioners in the region.
  • Mentors will also support the branch in liaising with relevant NAEGA officers.

Mentors will be paid a consultancy fee. This may go to their employers depending on individual contractual arrangements.

Person Specification

The persons appointed will need to demonstrate:

  • An understanding and commitment to the development of adult guidance.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • The ability to promote cross sector collaborative working and partnership activity.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including flexibility, tact, negotiating skills and the ability to motivate others.
  • Experience of network development.

Applications should be sent to the NAEGA office. If you have any queries the NAEGA Administrator, Kathleen Quinn, will put you in touch with an appropriate member of the NAEGA Board.
